Fandango Sales has successfully acquired the international sales rights for the significant documentary, "Vittorio De Sica – Staging Life." This film is scheduled to premiere in the Cannes Classics section at the Cannes Film Festival. This highly anticipated documentary delves into the life and career of the legendary Italian director, a pivotal figure in the neo-realist cinematic movement.

Exploring the Vision of Francesco Zippel and De Sica's Cinematic Impact

Directed by Francesco Zippel, who previously presented "Oscar Micheaux – The Superhero of Black Filmmaking" at the same festival section in 2021, this new documentary meticulously examines De Sica's extensive body of work and his lasting influence. De Sica, a four-time Oscar winner, is celebrated for his masterpieces such as "The Bicycle Thief," "Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow," and "Two Women."

Exclusive Access and Insights into a Cinematic Master

For this project, Zippel was granted unparalleled access to the De Sica family archives, unearthing previously unseen historical materials. "Vittorio De Sica – Staging Life" also features exclusive interviews with prominent filmmakers and actors, including Wes Anderson (who also serves as executive producer), Isabella Rossellini, Ruben Östlund, Asghar Farhadi, and Andrey Zvyagintsev. The film is characterized as an intimate and nuanced portrayal of an artist who masterfully transformed real-life observations into universally resonant emotions.

A Milestone Premiere at the Cannes Film Festival

In a statement, Zippel expressed his pride that a film dedicated to such a distinguished figure in Italian and global cinema would have its world premiere at Cannes. He highlighted the festival's strong focus on auteur cinema this year. Zippel emphasized De Sica's status as a global cinematic treasure, whose work has inspired countless generations of directors and performers worldwide. Italy's Sole Representation and Collaborative Production

Producer Federica Paniccia echoed Zippel's sentiments, expressing her pride that Francesco Zippel's film would debut at Cannes Classics and stand as Italy's sole cinematic representative. "Vittorio De Sica – Staging Life" is a collaborative production by Paniccia and Zippel, featuring an original score by Rodrigo D’Erasmo and Calibro 35, with Michele Castelli as the editor. The documentary is a Quoiat Films production, in association with Luce Cinecittà, Movimenti Production, and Sky Italia.

Fandango's Dual Role in Distribution

In addition to managing the global sales, Fandango will also oversee the theatrical release of "Vittorio De Sica – Staging Life" in Italy, ensuring widespread access to this significant cinematic tribute.
