The Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (KVIFF) is significantly enhancing its industry-focused events for its upcoming 60th anniversary, introducing several new initiatives designed to bolster the audiovisual sector. These enhancements include the launch of a pioneering "Book-to-Screen" program and a strategic expansion of its KVIFF Promises market, shifting its focus from a regional to a more international scope. The festival aims to provide a robust platform for professionals in Central Europe and beyond, structuring its industry program into two primary tracks: Cinematic Focus and Screen Focus.

A key development is the inaugural "Book-to-Screen" program, conceived in collaboration with major literary institutions like Germany's Frankfurter Buchmesse, Svět knihy, and the Moravian Library, with backing from the PPF Foundation. This initiative will showcase up to ten book titles from Central and Eastern Europe ripe for cinematic or series adaptations, fostering a marketplace for film rights and strengthening ties between the publishing and film industries. Additionally, the previously regionally-focused KVIFF Promises is now adopting a global perspective, aiming to become a crucial hub for international co-productions and talent discovery, reinforcing its role in the global film ecosystem.

Further enriching its offerings, KVIFF Industry Days will host the Global Media Makers Residency in partnership with U.S. embassies and Film Independent, providing intensive training for independent producers from the Czech Republic and Slovakia on private financing and international collaboration. The festival will also celebrate the craft of casting with the International Casting Directors Association (ICDA), which will present its Semiramis Award and host discussions on the impact of casting in contemporary filmmaking, highlighting its recognized importance in the creative process.

These bold new directions taken by the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival underscore a forward-thinking approach to cinematic development and collaboration. By integrating literary works into film production, fostering global partnerships, and recognizing the intricate artistry of casting, KVIFF is not just celebrating cinema but actively shaping its future. This commitment to innovation and international exchange serves as a beacon for aspiring filmmakers and industry professionals, demonstrating that creativity thrives on collaboration and open-minded exploration, ultimately enriching the global cultural landscape.
