Tori Kelly Unveils New Album 'God Must Really Love Me,' Drawing on Personal Journey

Tori Kelly's forthcoming album, titled "God Must Really Love Me," scheduled for release on June 12 through Epic Records, offers a profound reflection on the singer-songwriter's personal experiences. This collection of songs delves into her faith, the joys of her marriage, and the transformative journey of motherhood, marking a significant shift in her artistic expression.

In an exclusive announcement, Kelly shared insights into the album's creation, revealing that it serves as a candid snapshot of her current life. The musical direction for "God Must Really Love Me" diverges from her previous work, "Tori." (2024), which was heavily influenced by Y2K pop and R&B. Instead, this new record embraces a warmer, more acoustic-driven R&B style, reminiscent of her earlier sound. Ahead of the album's full release, fans will get a preview with two singles, "Control" and "Dive," both arriving this Friday.

Kelly expressed a deep sense of contentment and gratitude that permeates the album. The title itself, "God Must Really Love Me," encapsulates her reflections on the blessings in her life, a sentiment she hopes listeners will also find within themselves. This period of personal fulfillment began to inspire her during her tour with Ed Sheeran in Europe last summer, where she started to conceptualize the album. Despite initial concerns about balancing her music career with impending motherhood, inspiration struck shortly after the birth of her son, Zayden, in November. Just ten days postpartum, Kelly found herself brimming with musical ideas, leading to intense recording sessions with collaborators Tommy King and Dan Farber, where the bulk of the album was completed in a mere two weeks.

The album is enriched by contributions from talented artists such as Dixson, Nija Charles, Emily Warren, and Ammo. It paints an intimate portrait of Kelly's life, celebrating the profound happiness found in her role as a mother and the steadfast strength of her marriage to André Murillo. In a touching detail, some tracks even feature the gentle cooing of her son, Zayden, as she recorded with him on her lap, adding an unparalleled layer of intimacy and authenticity.

Kelly believes that this album stands as her most personal endeavor yet, as it allowed for a deeper, more uninhibited form of songwriting. She notes a newfound clarity in her creative process, where overthinking has been replaced by genuine expression. This evolution in her craft enables her to share more intricate narratives and emotions with her audience, inviting them into her world in unprecedented ways. Her signature vocal agility is still present, but with a deliberate restraint that emphasizes the lyrical content and emotional depth of each song.

As the release date for "God Must Really Love Me" approaches, Kelly is embarking on a new chapter, harmonizing her professional life with her family life. She will join Forrest Frank on "The Jesus Generation" tour, bringing her husband and son along for the journey, which commences on June 1. Kelly hopes that through this album, listeners will not only appreciate her journey but also discover a similar sense of love, gratitude, and appreciation for their own lives, encouraging a moment of reflection and connection with what truly matters.
