Unveiling the 29th Annual Brooklyn Film Festival Lineup
The Brooklyn Film Festival (BFF) proudly announced the complete roster for its 29th annual event. Operating under the evocative theme of "The Invitation," the festival is scheduled to run from May 29 to June 7, 2026. This year's program is particularly robust, featuring an impressive 134 films, which includes 36 world premieres, offering a fresh perspective on global and independent cinema.
A Global Showcase of Cinematic Diversity
The festival's curated selection represents a truly international scope, featuring films from 30 different countries. Attendees can anticipate a compelling mix of 11 narrative features and seven documentary features. Beyond the longer formats, BFF will also present an extensive collection of short films, comprising 50 narrative shorts, 17 documentary shorts, 24 animated films, and 21 experimental works, ensuring a broad spectrum of storytelling and artistic expression.
Opening Night: A Journey to Goa
The opening night gala will mark the New York premiere of "A Mosquito in the Ear." Directed by Nicola Rinciari and starring Jake Lacy, Nazanin Boniadi, and Ruhi Pal, the film follows a couple's journey to Goa, India, to reunite with their adopted daughter, only to encounter unexpected complications that challenge their plans.
Festival Venues and Engaging Events
Screenings and events will be held at prominent Brooklyn venues including BRIC Arts Media House, 100 Sutton Studios, and the Wythe Hotel. For those unable to attend in person, an online component will provide accessibility to the festival's offerings. The BFF Exchange returns on June 3 and 4 at the Feirstein Graduate School of Cinema, offering valuable opportunities for filmmakers through panels, networking, and a short film pitch contest for both documentary and narrative projects.
Special Programs and Collaborations
In addition to the main program, the festival will host several special events, including a collaboration with E-Flux focusing on artists' cinema. A dedicated documentary shorts program will be presented by Vice Sports, and the Brooklyn Museum's First Saturdays programming will feature a curated selection of queer films, further enriching the festival's diverse offerings and community engagement.
